C.P. Company’s Kan-D Jacket is One of Its Most Complicated Yet

Editor’s Notes: Fabric innovation and cutting-edge dying methods have been at the heart of C.P. Company since it was founded 45 years ago and this season the brains behind its designs continue to push the boundaries with the Kan-D jacket, the latest take on its signature Explorer aka google jacket.

Kan-D, an acronym for “Klear Achronic Nylon Dyed”, is transparent mono-filament nylon that resembles cellophane candy wrappers of the ‘50s and ‘60s. What makes this fabric so groundbreaking is that the yarn used is "ironed" to make it extra transparent and give it a mirrored finish.

C.P. Company admits that it is one of the most challenging fabrics it has worked with due to the shrinkage imbalance caused when dying. To prevent this from happening, the fabric can only be colored by using the brand’s unique garment dyeing technique whereby the dye is applied at the last step rather than the conventional method of pre-dying the fabric before it is cut and stitched. The result is a much deeper and more intense color which, combined with the translucent and mirror-like qualities of the fabric, make it truly unique.

The Kan-D collection features three styles: the Kan-D Goggle Hood Parka, Kan-D Medium Goggle Jacket, and Kan-D Goggle Hood Utility Jacket, each of which comes with a removable poly-fleece layer and in a selection of C.P. Company military-inspired colorways.
