The Ford Ranger ute is set to become more expensive when an updated '2023.5' model arrives early next year with minor changes and optional extras.

The 2023 Ford Ranger is due to receive a minor equipment upgrade for its core models – and buyers who take delivery of a vehicle built from March 2023 onwards will be hit by price increases between $250 and $1000.

This follows Ford Australia’s $1300 price rise for the Ranger Raptor last month, with the performance ute now starting from $86,790 plus on-road costs.

The updated Ranger – dubbed 'Model Year 2023.5' in Ford speak – will continue with six XL, XLS, XLT, Sport, Wildtrak and Raptor variants.

Buyers who take delivery of a Ford Ranger built from March 2023 onwards will be hit with higher prices – including some minor equipment upgrades – even if the order is placed before the Model Year 2023.5 changes were announced.

Prices for all 11 Ford Ranger XL variants have increased by $250, now starting from $36,180 plus on-road costs for the Single Cab Chassis, 2.0-litre single-turbo 4x2 and ranging up to $53,680 for the Double Cab Pick-Up 4x4.

Ford Ranger XLS prices are up $400 (now $47,130 and $54,730) while the XLT has been hit by two separate price rises – $800 for 2.0-litre bi-turbo grades and $1000 for the 3.0-litre V6.

The $800 price increase also applies to the 2.0-litre Wildtrak, with the remaining V6-powered Sport and Wildtrak variants up by $1000.

New equipment for the 2023 Ford Ranger includes a rear-view camera for the XL cab chassis (previously available for XL pick-up and above), while an integrated trailer brake controller is now standard for the Ranger XLT and Sport grades.

Ford now offers more optional equipment for certain Ranger grades, with the XLT and Sport Touring Pack now including a cargo management system and six overhead auxiliary switches, increasing in price from $900 to $1295.

Standalone optional equipment has been expanded to include a set of 20-inch wheels for the Ford Ranger Wildtrak ($500) and the six overhead auxiliary switches for the XLT crew cab ($250).

As previously reported, a power roller shutter will become available for the flagship Ranger Raptor as a $3500 option, which includes replacing the spray-in tub liner with a drop-in plastic liner.

The Ford Ranger will continue to be offered with three different engines – a 125kW/405Nm 2.0-litre, four-cylinder single-turbo diesel, a 154kW/500Nm 2.0-litre four-cylinder bi-turbo diesel bi-turbo diesel and a 184kW/600Nm 3.0-litre V6 turbo-diesel.

All Ford Ranger 2.0-litre single-turbo variants offer the choice of rear- or selectable (part-time) four-wheel drive through a six-speed automatic transmission.

Only the XLS and XLT bi-turbo grades are available without all-wheel drive, while all bi-turbo and V6 are mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission.

The 2023 Ford Everest is expected in Australian showrooms towards the middle of 2023, with production starting in March next year.

A full list of standard features and options are included at the bottom of this story.

The Raptor loses features from the Wildtrak – the sports bar, power roller shutter, cargo management system, roof rails, tray tie down rails and integrated rear access step – but adds:
